Chris Hemsworth is back as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, the follow up to 2020’s first film of the series on Netflix. And this time, the action scenes are even more ridiculous but brilliant at the same time.
Hemsworth’s character starts the movie in hospital after the events at the end of the first movie – don’t worry if you can’t remember what happened, there’s a handy recap at the start of this movie. However, after making steady improvement, his team think it would be a good idea to spend some time on his own to decide what to do next. He does at a cabin in the middle of Austria, in the winter. He’s got one arm in a sling and a leg in a brace, but he manages to look after himself, his dog and even buys some chickens! Then he is visited by a stranger, played by Idris Elba, who offers him a job. What follows is a cross between the A-Team and Rocky, as he gets fit enough to carry out the new mission.
The plot is pretty stupid, but the action & fight scenes lift the film above others of its ilk on Netflix. It’s 2 hours long, but doesn’t drag.
Suspend any levels of reality and enjoy this for what it is, a big budget action movie with some brilliant set pieces that tie a flimsy plot together!
